    SQL Question of the day

    Ok ...

We trainers have been challenged at some of the SQL Launch Events.
The question asked by some people, or probably the same person was:
What is the tool displayed on the SQL books as displayed in the picture link below

I am offering a free SQL 2005 exam voucher for the person that proofs me the existence and the description of this tool!

Announcing the new Microsoft Certification track

Together with the most important release ever [SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio 2005, Biztalk 2006], Microsoft announced a new range of certifications that can be considered as the baseline for future certification on Microsoft technologies.

The certification better matches job definitions and has implemented a CORE level of skills identified in the Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist.
This will be the base and core requirement for the Microsoft Certified IT Professional Certification or the Microsoft Certified Professional Developer Certification.

Also ..4 of the SQL Server exams are currently in Beta, and I expect them to become live early 2006.
On the SQL Server Launch Events you can get a free exam voucher, together with a copy of SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005.

To find out more about the new certification have a look at : http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/newgen/

    ITFORUM Barcelona

This week I will be at Microsoft ITFORUM conference in Barcelona, besides from having some chat an talks with SQL People I will spend most of my time at the Microsoft Learning booth where I am presenting and promoting the Microsoft Certification Track and Learning, mostly focusing on Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Server 2005.

If you are around, come and say hi, it is always nice to get to know new people.

Also I will be at the Ask the Expert booth on SQL Server hoping to provide answers to most of your questions.

I am thinking of blogging about the most asked questions

    what a trip ...

After succesfully delivering the ISV Touchdown Event in Montreal and Vancouver I went to Seattle to catch up with a friend and go for dinner at the Brazilian Barbecue downtown.

We discussed some of the items that I expect to be in a Transact-SQL Course on SQL Server 2005. First of all, I want a course on Transact-SQL that shows me the differences in features between SQL 2000 and SQL 2005.

Why is that? Because there is still going to be a lot of SQL 2000 Servers out there over the next coming years and there are some syntax differences and features I definetely want to point out.

    Finally blogging again

THis year has been extremely busy so far and yes ...I promised that I was going to keep my blog site updated from now on ..you know how that goes .

Lately I have been training the world on SQL Server 2005, and I am so happy that the product is finaly released.

Shortly I will be presenting SQL Launch Seminars in London, for QA Training, and I will release my own courseware on SQL Server 2005 with them.

I am very pleased with the new Microsoft Certification announced with the Launch of SQL Server 2005, however I think that courseware is still a little lacking.
But I am pretty sure we get there.

Most of the SQL material I will upload in the future can be found on my very own SQL Resource pages that are located on www.dandyman.net/sql

Some of the articles I published on SQL Server 2005 lately and my opinion on the product launch can be found at the links below:

    http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2005/nov05/11-04Learning.mspx

In SQL Server 2005 RTM I found a minor bug, resetting client statistics doesn't seem to function and still reproduces the same hash table ..kinda wondered what's gonna happen to that. I guess ..we'll see?

MAM !!! Gij zijt fantastisch... iets wat een kind niet ziet in zijn moeder heb ik op een bepaalde leeftijd ontdekt .... niemand kan zich een betere moeder voorstellen dan diegene die ik en ons Sally hebben. Dikke knuffel!

MOM!!! You are fantastic... a child doesn't see this in his mom, but I discovered it @ a certain age ... no one has a better mom than the one me and Sally have. Big Hug.

Pictures, travel stories and so on will be posted here too.
I hope to see some of you around during my US Experience.

The other part of the Roadshow will be covered by Rob Labbe.
Hereby I would like to wish Rob the best during the Roadshow, I know being away from home with a little baby won't always be that easy.

After the roadshow I am continuing with the TPREPS...

    TPREP Date :Arlington VA, 21-Mar-05 - 25-Mar-05
Then I get back to Belgium for a TPREP on 3-Apr-05

    ISA 2004

Yesterday I configured some computers to setup as my testenvironment and provide me global access when I am traveling the US on the Business Intelligence Roadshow and the TPREPS I am organizing. Great news on the TPREPS, also .. they will be sponsored by Microsoft Belgium. (special thanks to Stefan Lamberichts)

So I kicked off with installing Windows Server 2003 on 2 machines, install one as a Domain Controller, the other with Virtual Server 2005. Awesome!

Knowing that .. when I want to provide access to it from the internet and that VPN would be the best solution I installed ISA 2004 for Firewall and Web Proxy access.
Talking about "Discovery"? This is really a product to be discovered, if I look on the easy of work I had to set up ISA 2004 and provide me remote access through my network over VPN, Weehee! I was very excited...

And of course we care about security right? So I enabled certificate based authentication (EAP) only as the only authentication type.
Better don't loose that user certificate now... No worries.. I enrolled wit smart card authentication.

How do I connect to my server not having any FIXED IP address ..., relax .. there is still something like Dynamic DNS right. Of course I installed that.

Any questions on how I have setup this entire config... Feel free to contact me..

    HOAX Virus .. the matrix

Today I got several customers warning me about a virus : The Matrix pps ...
Checking out on the Symantec and both McAfee websites it only took me 2 seconds to confirm what I expected .. a hoax.
     http://us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=100395

Now a lot of people have no clue about what a Hoax is...
How do you explain to them that a the only intention for a hoax is to generate email traffic...
It could have been a little boy in Brasil that is getting one dollar for every mail you send him, or it could be whatever.. a possible virus warning....

If you wanna find out about some VERY Serious virus threads, it will probably headnews on CNN, for all the others, trust your antivirus updates, install the service packs and security hotfixes for your operating system.
And last but not least... Stop watching porn and sending nasty pictures to each other.. (geeeezz..)

    Got this blog thing running!

    Woohoo,

I just introduced myself in the world of bloggers. Am I a geek now?
So what do geeks usually type on a blogsite. Maybe I should all wish you a merry Xmas and a happy 2005. I hope that whatever you expect in life might occur in 2005.
Extended wishes and something to think about you can find on the common e-card people use to spam you with these days

2005 is gonna be a very busy year for me.
First of all I am organizing TPREPS on SQL Server 2005 for the MCT community. These trainings will be held in Belgium and several places in the US.

After that I will be doing a Roadshow on Business Intelligence for Microsoft, mostly based on SQL Reporting Services. Together with Rob Labbe, another MCT out of Newfoundland, Canada we covering most of the US. More info about this is available on the MS Partner Readiness website.

This blogsite is directly accessible from my website too
